Mahoney State Park is located halfway between Omaha and Lincoln off of I-80 at exit 426. An annual state park pass or day permit is required to enter the park.  Star parties are held at the golf driving range beginning after sunset. Have a telescope? Bring it along or enjoy the views through ours!

UNL Behlen Observatory Public Nights
Behlen

Behlen Observatory is located just to the west of Omaha south of Mead (visit the observatory website below for detailed directions).  Operated by the University of Nebraska, it houses the largest telescope in the state.  At the observatory's public nights, visitors get a first hand opportunity to look through the 30" telescope as well as those of amateurs setup outside the observatory, in addition to hearing from an informative speaker... all free of charge!

Nebraska Star Party 18, July 31st through August 5th, 2011

Co-hosted by the Omaha Astronomical Society and Lincoln Prairie Astronomy Clubs, NSP is one of the nation's premier dark sky star parties.  Held south of Valentine, NE at Merritt Reservoir, the event offers not only among the nation's darkest skies, but diverse family friendly day time activities. Visit http://www.nebraskastarparty.org for more information.

These multimedia programs are designed for general audiences, usually highlighting star patterns visible in the early evening and astronomical current events. A staff astronomer will be on hand to discuss audience member questions. Rooftop observing may be offered after public shows, subject to staff/equipment availability and favorable weather/sky conditions.
