: I have a 1960's vintage 12.5" f/5.6 full-thickness mirror that is marked Keim Precision Optical Co. and Coast Instrument Co. on the back. It is an unused mirror in the original box. I am familiar with Coast Instrument Co. but would like to hear more about Keim mirrors. I understand that they were a competitor of Cave Optical Co. in the 1960's and produced some of the best mirrors. A history of the company (Keim)? Any comments from users of these mirrors?
the company of which you speek made mirrors for the coast line of "treckerscopes"-and were indeed very revered in their day, even before MY time! the cream of their crop of scopes was called the GALAXY series, and alas, though I never looked thru one,I did see one as a young lad, at an L.A.A.S.meeting,though I am fuzzy on the particulars, it was the best looking, highest quality, production reflector I ever saw to that time, and maybe still the best to this day,and thats coming from a happy 10" cave owner, and I have searched and searched for one,but to no avail.I have often wondered about the relationship that this company had with Cave Optical, seeing as how they were a stones throw apart in Long Beach.I visited cave as a youth, but by that time coast was long gone.
