I knew that Tom Cave had been failing health for many years. I had paused my workday when I read David Doctors post. I felt sad. My thoughts wandered around the whole amature astronomer movement over the last fifty years, and how much a part of it the Cwve telescope was. Well before the mass produces computerized fare we have today. Before Cave and several peers you pretty much had to make the whole thing youeself. I could say about the Caves: "Thats when they really made telescopes. You had to point them yourselves. They don't make them like that any more". Much of which is true. There are many fine instruments made today, but they're quite expensive. The old Caves are like vintage cars in a way. Solid, simple, classic. Although they belong to another era, they're still fully functional. I think the interest in restoring and maintaining these beauties is a fine testiment to the legacy of Tom Cave. I set a great pride in my restored 10" Delux Astrola.

So long Tom, we'll se you on the other side.
