I have an unusual Cave refractor mounting with a solid brass mounting head and wood tripod legs. I have owned numerous Cave instruments and this is sure a Cave mount. It has a 7/8" detachable declination shaft, Magnusson setting circles, and a standard Cave RA drive with Boston gears. I ran an article on this mounting in "Making a 6-inch RFT" which can be accessed by going to yahoo and then typing in: Rose City Astronomers. Then select Newsletter. Pick the July, 2002 issue. I wrote to Tom Cave and he said that his company never made such a mounting, but I disagree. It is definitely a Cave, possibly a custom job. The RA shaft is the standard 1". It is a heavy-duty mount and could easily hold an eight-inch Newtonian. Any help as to its origin would be appreciated, or if Cave sold any more of these to anyone I would like to hear from them.
