Hi Keith,

I don't really have a line on shafts. I was going to visit one of the small machine shops around town about one. My friend has a photo lab and he goes to a small shop in my town for replacement parts for his equipment. He says the prices they quote him are cheaper than buying new replacement parts. I guess I have a line on someone after all.

As far as paint goes I got Rustoleom(sp?) primer and gloss spray paint at the local Home Depot. The grey was almost an exact match for the original color. Make sure the old paint is 100% removed.

Replacement parts are hard. You either have to make them or find others in better shape than yours.
try www.astromart.com or astronomy-mall.com. They have lots of links to classifieds and businesses.

I can't wait to start observing Mars with this thing.

: Looks great Lee:

: You are going to have a nice scope by the look of your photos. What kind of paint did you use on the pier? Do you have a line on where replacment parts can be found? I would like to replace the shaft of my 10" f5 with stainless as well.

: Best regards

: : I recently aquired an old 8 inch f16 Cave. I am thrilled to have this scope at my house at last. I have known of this scope and I have watched it sit and collect dust and rust for many years. I have created a webpage with pictures of my cleaning and restoration. Please feel free to visit and I would welcome any tips. The only mirror identifier I can find is "#7" written on the back with a pencil.

: : Visit my page for images and comments. Feel free to use anything on the page if you wish.
