I am restoring an 8" Cave Astrola from 1974. The original focuser is missing. I would like to replace it with an original, if possible, both for asthetics and so as not to be cutting/drilling more holes on the OTA. Anyone know where I might find one? If not , any suggestions for a replacement? I was thinking a UO Vega or something similar. I'd welcome any suggestions. Also missing is a sliding counterweight assembly often seen mounted up near the focuser and Finderscope, it has two bolt holes about 5.5" apart. Unfortunately both these items were lost in the Astronomy Club shuffle....otherwise the scope and mount are in fine condition......the mirror is just fine as well :-) it's number is M749368 from June 8, 1974. I am very proud to have taken ownership of this beautiful scope, as it was purchased originally by one of the founding members of my club(ASNNE). John P. will be missed but his Cave will live on.
Thanks for your help!!
