Hi John,
Cave used the same gear and worm for the dec as he did for the R.A. The worm was mounted on the end of an approx 1/2" thick aluminum plate attached to the dec shaft and the gear was mounted in a clutch plate system similar to the one used for the R.A., except that the center hole was larger to fit over the end of the dec housing. I have a 1969 vintage Cave mount that originaly came with this set-up. I changed it over to a Cave tangent arm system a number of years ago; it's a much better system.
