I've owned a 10" f/5 Cave (Super Transportable Deluxe model) since 1980 -- twenty years, wow!

Apparently, I have one of the last Caves ever sold, as Cave-Astrola went under just after I received mine. [After waiting almost a year, and with multiple entreaties to Mr. Cave -- including one form a lawyer! -- mine finally arrived. I understand that many orders toward the last were never filled, so I guess I am pretty lucky to get one when I did.]

Toward the last, in addition to the back order problems, the optical quality of the Astrola scopes was not up to Alika K. Herring's (sp?) superb work with Cave. The mirror that came with mine was, at best, "fair," which was quite a disappointment after waiting all that time.

Some years later, I had my mirror refigured by Richard Fagin, just before HE went out of the optics business, lol. [How many Cave - Fagin scopes are out there, I wonder?] I'm happy to say that Richard's work IS up to Cave's earlier standards, and my scope is a bear for doubles and lunar and planetary work.

I'll try to get a photo and other info to you shortly.
