I bought the primary mirror first in 1969 from a gentleman who was losing his vision to glaucoma. It is supposedly a Cave "shelf mirror". These were optics that came out much better than his advertised 1/10 wave and he held these aside for special customers. Instead of building my own scope around this mirror, I opted to order the rest of the scope from Cave Optical in 1970. The scope is all original from cave except for the saddle straps which have been replaced. I may send the mount shafts out to be re chromed as they are beginning to rust after 30 years. Although I am looking at buying a 12" SCT, I don't believe I'll part with my Cave.
