I purchased this telescope from Cave in December, 1976 and took delivery the next Spring. My astronomy mentor and penpal, Howard Zeh, Temperance, Michigan had an identical newtonian on a Criterion Dynascope mount at the time that he used for deep sky photography. Following in his footsteps I placed my order and proceeded to shoot deep sky with my instrument. I offer the confirming letter also from Tom Cave. Although Mr. Cave made no reference to the prices involved I recall that the 6 inch f/4 with null figured optics was $200.00 and the heavy duty equatorial was $280.00. Sounds cheap nowadays, but at that time that was several weeks pay. I don't have any photos of the telescope from recent as I am using the mounting in one capacity and the RFT in another. I did locate a picture (B/W) of when the two were mated together years ago on a backyard pier for astrophotography. You will note that I had modified the saddle with a tangent arm gadget for slo-motion in declination from another company at that time called Pacific Instruments. The guidescope was a standard 2.4 inch, 700mm focal length refractor, and the focuser was a modified Jackson T. Carle helical unit sold exclusively by Cave Optical. Clear Skies, |
